TYLER WRIGHT SECURES SPOT IN WSL FINAL 5

TW CLINCHED

Tyler Wright has locked in her spot in this year’s World Surfing League Final 5.

It follows a run of dominant performances, most recently as she finished runner up in the Rio Pro event, which secured her place in the Final 5, fuelling her ambition of bringing home her third world title.

Wright has had an amazing season so far, notably taking out the iconic Bells Beach Pro event for the second year in a row.

The more recent America’s portion of the tour has also been successful for Tyler, as she has finished second in events in El Salvador, and Rio.

It has taken a great deal of hard work and sacrifice for Tyler to return to the heights of world surfing, facing the various hurdles with unwavering grit and tenacity.

Grateful for all the hard work that my team and I have done to start taking on high risk sections again with the confidence that I can absorb impact”, Wright wrote to her 228,000 Instagram followers.

“I feel like it’s taken me 5 years to find that again physically and mentally”. The Final 5 is a new format the World Surf League has implemented to determine their champion for the year.

If Tyler is to finish first overall after the completion of the regular season, she will automatically qualify for the Title Match. Finishing in positions two to five will mean she will have to get past some of her peers before reaching her title match.

There are two regular season events between now and the Finals, which will be taking place in September in America.
