ALLANA FERGUSON LAUNCHES DESTINATION WOLLONGONG’S LOCAL BUSINESS CAMPAIGN

Destination Wollongong is encouraging locals and visitors alike to “Play It Forward” as part of a new initiative aimed at boosting the local business economy.

The campaign follows on from the successful launch of Destination Wollongong’s “Press Play” brand in November last year and is an incentivised spending promotion with more than 30 local operators already involved.

Launching on Monday 21 September, the campaign encourages participants to continue their spending journey from one operator to the next with former Jillaroos star Allana Ferguson stepping up as Ambassador of the campaign. 

As a Wollongong local, Allana is passionate about the region and knows that local businesses need help now more than ever, commenting: “Wollongong is my home and I love the way the community supports each other,”

“Play It Forward is a great way to show your support for multiple local businesses at once, particularly during these challenging times and I am proud to be an Ambassador for this campaign,” said Ms Ferguson. 

Combining the “pay it forward” goodwill concept with the peak tourism bodies’ playful brand ethos, Play It Forward sees participants spend $50 at the first participating venue and in turn, receive a $20 discount voucher for the next participating venue, when another $50 is spent. 

Destination Wollongong General Manager, Mark Sleigh, said it was clear 2020 was an unprecedented year and that local businesses were doing it tough, commenting: “Play It Forward is a new direction for us, but one we are very excited about because it fits our new brand identity perfectly,”

“Speaking with local businesses, it is clear that this year has been incredibly challenging and as a tourism organisation, we feel it is our responsibility to drive awareness of the region in a socially responsible way. Play It Forward is a tangible destination marketing campaign which directly injects much needed dollars into our local economy encouraging locals to enjoying new experiences in their own backyard.” said Mr Sleigh.
