NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ANNOUNCES THE RETURN OF MEANWHILE IN AUSTRALIA WITH NICK “HONEY BADGER” CUMMINS

In partnership with MCN, PHD, Volkswagen and Tourism and Events Queensland, National Geographic will premiere episode two of the hugely popular, one hour, local production Meanwhile in Australia presented by Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins.

Meanwhile in Australia is on the surface a travel documentary, but beneath lies a purpose that goes beyond a simple, but visually stunning journey. It digs into the heart of Australian culture, exploring the unique spirit that often is a genuine discovery only found in the outback of our nation.

After experiencing the far south of Australia in episode one, Nick now sets his sights on Far North Queensland. The one-hour special event program follows Nick on a road trip along the top end of Australia from the Whitsundays to Cape Tribulation.

During his road trip Nick is on the hunt for the characters that give the area its charisma, its ingenuity in the face of adversity, and its reason for a cold beer at the end of the day.

Known for post-match quotes and viral Australianisms, Nick grew up on a diet of Aussie yarns, passed down from his grandfather and father, igniting his passion for finding and sharing great Aussie stories with a new generation.

In announcing the special event program and its partners Kael Hudson, Director of Advertising and Partnerships, National Geographic Australia said, “We are passionate at National Geographic about telling stories and our viewers tell us they want more local stories.

This is a perfect opportunity to bring together remarkable content that features extraordinary scenery and fascinating Queensland characters. But it’s the distinctive talents of Nick as our host that creates a perfect formula for National Geographic and our partners.”

Volkswagen, Commercial Vehicles National Marketing Manager, Nicholas Reid said, “We are excited to build on the huge success of Meanwhile in Australia episode 1. Nick and National Geographic Australia are the perfect platform to showcase the capability of the Amarok ute to Australia and the world.”

Tourism and Events Queensland, Chief Executive Officer, Leanne Coddington said “The documentary provided an opportunity to demonstrate why Queensland was branded ‘beautiful one day, perfect the next’.

Our tagline is all about the Queensland lifestyle, and this documentary will feature some of Queensland’s genuine characters, showcasing our way of life and why millions of visitors flock to the state each year to enjoy it,” Ms. Coddington said.

“The great Australian road trip is such an iconic way to enjoy our country’s landscapes and unique tourism experiences, and there will be plenty of highlights on this journey along the Great Barrier Reef from the Whitsundays to Cape Tribulation.”

MEANWHILE IN AUSTRALIA is a National Geographic Australia production. National Geographic Australia has the global rights and international sales will be handled by FNG Sales. The creative concept for Meanwhile in Australia is owned by National Geographic Australia, based on an original concept developed collaboratively by Nick Cummins’ Manager Nick Fordham (The Fordham Company) and Jerry Butterfield (then with National Geographic Australia, now with Butter Media).”

Filming commences late October and the program will launch December 9, 2018 – available on Foxtel, Fetch, and the National Geographic App and also Qantas In-Flight Entertainment services.
