MOISES HENRIQUES – WE GOT WHAT WE DESERVED

We got what we deserved: Moises Henriques

Sixers’ all-rounder lauds his team’s CLT20 2012 campaign

Moises Henriques was a happy campaigner as the Sydney Sixers cruised to a 10-wicket win over the Highveld Lions to become the CLT20 2012 champions. With the bowlers polishing off the hosts’ top order early on and their own openers reaching the target comfortably with an unbroken partnership, there was little left to do for the all-rounder. Speaking to clt20.com after the comfortable win, Henriques talked about the Sixers’ campaign.

Excerpts from his brief chat:

You didn’t get to bowl or bat today

It wasn’t a very busy day for me, but it was enjoyable. It was very good.

Tell us about the Sixers’ campaign, where you finished on a high without losing a single game

It was terrific effort. To come over here we beat Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings and then we knocked over three games against the South African teams on their home soil. It was a fantastic effort. I think we got what we deserved.

Sixers opened their bowling with spinners today. What was the plan?

After McCullum got a wicket in the first over, Hads [Brad Haddin] just thought it was going to work and it worked well. Then Josh Hazlewood came on and bowled the third over and bowled beautifully as well.

What are your thoughts on the tournament and what does it mean to you?

It was fantastic campaign. It is a terrific tournament and this is a great place to have it, here in South Africa. It gives domestic cricket teams a chance to play on the international scene. And for some guys who have never been able to experience anything like this, it is a fantastic thing.

Was it planned the way you went about the run-chase? The batsmen took their time to get in and then played their shots

It wasn’t really a plan. It certainly was our plan throughout the tournament to take it slow. We always knew that the first few overs were always going to be the hardest because of the conditions here in South Africa. The boys did it perfectly again tonight. They didn’t lose a wicket early and then they showed how quickly we can catch up here in the end.

Did you think you would get through their top order so quickly?

We didn’t think we were going to take that many wickets early, but it is that type of wicket where you can breakthrough early, and we knew that they were going to come back with a couple of partnerships in the end. But the boys bowled well in the end to keep them to 121.
