Intrust Super Shute Shield

After being dumped by the ABC, in 2015 The Fordham Company secured the ownership of the free-to-air television and digital rights for Australia’s premier club rugby competition based here in Sydney. The competition is broadcast in Australia via the Seven Network on Saturday afternoons.

Season 2017 was arguably our biggest and best season of Intrust Super Shute Shield. From huge crowds, to strong ratings growth and a terrific growth in coverage across all forms of media. This competition is healthier than it’s ever been.

Over 20,000 people attended our Grand Final at North Sydney Oval in what was a terrific finale to the 2017 season. To see the Warringah Rats lift the Intrust Super Shute Shield was nothing short of a sporting fairy-tale. Tribalism was rife and competition was fiercer than ever.

From a television perspective, our ratings continued to be strong and the quality of the broadcast of the coverage. Former Wallaby, Cameron Shepherd, and fellow commentators Andrew Swain and Tony Lewis were once again brilliant this season and made this year’s coverage as genuine and entertaining as ever.

The Grand Final being moved to Channel 7 was a great sign of support from the Seven Network and this decision was well justified with the match wining the ratings slot on the day, domestically reaching over 194,000 people.

Taking the broadcast to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands via the Rugby Channel as well as the 2017 Grand Final in over twenty countries across Asia was a further sign of the strength and potential of this competition.

Our twelve clubs across Sydney benefited from increased (and some cases record) crowds, greater sponsorship acquisition assisted by television coverage and increased media attention.

Finally, and most importantly, the competition and broadcast has been incredibly well supported by our many sponsors and partners. These included Intrust Super, Charter Hall, Bang & Olufsen, Fujitsu, Canon and Drive.com.au as well as media partners such as the Seven Network, oOh! Media, Nova 969 and 2GB and News Corp. To have our foundation and naming rights sponsor, Intrust Super, re-sign for a further three years has guaranteed the longevity of this competition and the broadcast.
